Terrified TV crew discover ‘huge crocodile’ in flood waters – but find it’s not all it seems

A TV crew were on alert when they spotted what appeared to be a huge crocodile in floodwater.

Australia’s 7 News Sunrise show was reporting on the recent devastating floods that have hit Rockhampton in Queensland this week.

Warnings have been issued for people to be on the look out for snakes and crocodiles, drawn by the floods.

And as they took a boat on the flood water this morning the crew thought they had come face-to-face with a beast after spotting an ominous head poking above the water.

However they were soon left a little red-faced – and relieved – when they realised it was just a garden ornament that had been overcome by the surging waters.

“We have just seen what we thought was a crocodile,” reporter Bianca Stone said, pointing towards a head peering above the surface of the water.

Fortunately for the terrified crew, who had taken to the flood roads by boat, the mammoth reptile was just a garden ornament.

Stone added: “Thankfully that is a garden ornament. That did make me want to borrow [fellow Sunrise reporter] Patrick Condren’s brown corduroys for a moment. That’s pretty scary.

“Crocodiles are a real risk in these parts. There are a couple of crocs that have been sighted along the Fitzroy River here and as that river is running really quickly they will move up into the urban areas too.”

The surging water has left about 3,000 homes and businesses…
