    He makes a welcome return to The Voice UK on Saturday evening as the talent show settles into a new prime time home on ITV.

    But as Sir Tom Jones prepares to reclaim his spinning chair on a reinvigorated coaching panel following a two-year absence, he admits to harbouring deep sadness that his late wife will not be there to see it.

    The venerated Welsh singer, 76, lost his beloved Linda to lung cancer following a short battle at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles last April.

    And he admits his late wife, who he married in 1957, would have loved to see his return to the show after expressing outrage at his unceremonious and unexpected departure in 2015.

    Reflecting on his sacking, he told breakfast show Lorraine: ‘She couldn’t believe it, she said, “Are you sure you don’t want to do The Voice anymore?” when it happened and I said, “No, no it’s not my choice” and she said, “You must be joking!”

    ‘She was annoyed so, but then she passed before…(he returned to the show) but she would be very happy that I am back on it.’
