Sony has announced a temporary price drop for the PlayStation 4. Starting December 11, Sony will sell the Uncharted 4 PS4 Slim bundle for only $250 in the United States. That’s the same price that the system was offered for on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
“We first brought you this deal during Black Friday weekend, and it was incredibly successful for PS4 sales so we decided to bring it back this month,” Sony said in a post on the PlayStation Blog.
Sony said today that the week of Black Friday was the most successful in the history of the PlayStation brand, though no sales figures were divulged.
The deal is available until December 24 in the US. In Canada, the bundle will be offered for $330 CAD until December 29.
This move makes the PS4 $50 cheaper than the rival Xbox One during the all-important holiday shopping season. It’s something of an aggressive move on Sony’s part, and it’ll be interesting to see if Microsoft follows suit with an Xbox One price drop.
History suggests that will happen. Sony dropped the price of the PS4 by $50 for holiday 2015 as well, a move that Microsoft quickly followed.
The Xbox One has been the best-selling in the US and UK for months now. We’ll find out tomorrow, December 8, if the streak will extend for another month when the NPD Group releases its November report.
